The World's Most Delectable Tea

Enjoy the cozy warmth of tea, sip by sip, as it awakens your senses and soothes your soul. Some of you might be wondering why I’m writing an article about the world’s most delicious tea in a travel blog. Well, after the positive feedback we received on our recent coffee article, I thought, why not do one on tea? Besides being a coffee lover, I also enjoy a good cup of tea. Tea has numerous benefits, and whenever I visit a new place, I love to sample its unique tea offerings. For example, I adore Thailand’s butterfly pea tea, Singapore’s TWG collection, and flavored Indian chai. In this post, I’ll share my recommended tea collection from around the world.

First, let’s understand the origin of tea. Tea has always been special to people from various countries, connecting them and serving as a form of cultural exchange. Many countries have rich tea cultures, offering diverse varieties and unique customs that enhance the global tea experience. If you want to enjoy these teas where they originate, you might consider adding these countries to your travel list.

Before diving into my list of the most delicious teas, here are some simple instructions on how to make tea. Whether it’s a calming herbal blend, a brisk black tea, or a fragrant green tea, the method remains mostly the same, resulting in a comforting drink.

Statistics show that tea consumption reached about 6.7 billion kilograms in 2022 and is expected to rise to 7.4 billion kilograms by 2025. As the second most consumed drink in the world, after water, tea’s importance is evident. There are many types, including green, yellow, oolong, and black teas.

Now, here are some of my top tea recommendations, along with their benefits:

Mint tea, also known as “nana” or “atay nana” in Moroccan culture, comes from Northern Africa and is a major part of Moroccan hospitality. Made with spearmint leaves, green tea, and lots of sugar, it’s both refreshing and symbolic of friendly welcomes. This tea also offers numerous health benefits.

Chamomile tea, made from the chamomile flower, is known for its mild taste and soothing properties. Originating from countries like Egypt, Germany, and Italy, the most common type used for tea is German chamomile. This tea not only tastes delightful but also offers various health benefits.

Butterfly pea tea, or Clitoria ternatea tea, is a vibrant blue drink made from the flowers of the butterfly pea plant, native to Southeast Asia. It’s popular for its stunning color and unique flavor, in addition to its health benefits.

Matcha, a powdered green tea, is an integral part of Japanese tea culture. The tradition of cultivating, processing, and preparing matcha makes it a revered beverage. Matcha tea is known for its rich flavor and numerous health benefits.

Jasmine tea features a delicate floral aroma and soothing taste. Rooted in Chinese tea culture, it’s made by blending green tea leaves with jasmine flowers. Jasmine tea is renowned not only for its flavor but also for its health benefits.

Oolong tea, with its unique flavor profile, finds its origins in Chinese tea culture. It falls between green and black tea in terms of oxidation, appealing to tea enthusiasts worldwide and offering various health benefits.

Chai tea is a beloved and aromatic beverage deeply rooted in Indian culture. This traditional spiced tea blend delights the senses and offers potential health benefits.

If you loved this list of the ‘most delicious teas in the world,’ you should know that tea can also be enjoyed as a cocktail. In Vietnam, one popular tea cocktail is the “Tra Da Vodka,” which combines traditional Vietnamese iced tea with vodka, representing a modern twist on Vietnamese tea culture.

For tea lovers, Singapore is a must-visit destination. It offers many places to enjoy a vast variety of teas, particularly at TWG Tea, renowned for its exceptional blend of global teas in a luxurious setting.

The world of tea is rich with diverse cultures and traditions. Each cup, whether it’s Moroccan mint tea or jasmine tea, takes you on a journey through history and geography, bringing a delightful mix of flavors and health benefits.

Let us know if you enjoyed this article, and feel free to share your favorite teas if they didn’t make the list.
